Composer/Performer Podcast

A podcast is a series of audio or video messages that are released in episodes or series through the web.  People often think of podcasts as audio blogs or books.  You can subscribe or purchase podcasts through many different online sites including itunes music store.  Many podcast subscriptions are free.  Podcasts are a great way to get information about a topic and listen to it when you are in the car or on the go.

You are going to create a podcast on a composer or performer that you feel is one of the most influential artists of all time. It can be a composer, performer, or band.  Your selection can be from any time period or genre.  You have to try to convince your audience that this artist has made a series impact on the history and industry of music.

Steps for creating your podcast:

  1. Choose an artist
  2. Download music and put it into your itunes library
  3. Download pictures and put them into your picture folder in your finder or into iphoto.  You can right click (control click on a mac) and click add to iphoto library.
  4. Write the script for what you are going to say in your podcast and type it onto a desktop sticky note or a piece of paper.  It is helpful to write the script in paragraphs the way you are going to read it.
  5. Open garageband and choose the podcast format under new project. The podcast track at the top is where you will put your pictures.  You can pull from any place on your computer on the right hand side of the screen.  There are three tabs at the top: Audio, Photos, and Movies.  You just drag your pictures into the podcast track and your music into a blank track at the bottom of the premade tracks.  You can also add music from the loops and jingles that are provided in garageband.
  6. You will then need to record yourself reading your script in the track titled male voice or female voice.
  7. Set the timing of the pictures and music change to match your script.  Use the split track option to slice out any excess noise or sections you do not want.
  8. You can preview your podcast with the pictures by clicking on the picture in the purple podcast track.  It will bring up a bigger window when you hit play.
  9. When your podcast is over, you will need to give credit to the resources you used by simply speaking "The material in this podcast was taken from wikipedia.org, and the harvard biographical dictionary of composers.
Converting Files
